There are two primary sources that provide guidance on nutritional requirements for dogs and cats: The American Association of Feed Control Officers (AAFCO, 2014) and Nutrient Requirements of Dogs and Cats published by the National Research Council (NRC, 2006).
We used computer modeling software to analyze our ingredients prior to submitting for formal laboratory testing. We referenced both AAFCO and NRC nutritional guidelines, as well as recommendations from veterinarians and researchers, Drs. Barbara Royal and Karen Becker.
Once our computer models were acceptable, we submitted food samples to the SDKlabs in Kansas for a full nutritional analysis. The results were used to adjust our formulations.
We use the whole animal in our foods and do not add any unnecessary ingredients or fillers. Our formula replicates what a dog would hunt for in the wild:
• 80% muscle meat
• 10% finely ground bone
• 5% offal (e.g., liver, kidney, heart, spleen, trachea, green tripe, gizzards)
• 4% freshly juiced organic green vegetables
• 1% organic coconut oil, organic kelp powder, organic milk thistle
If you have further questions specific to our ingredients, methods of sourcing, or results of our nutritional analysis, please do not hesitate to call or email.
